1 dead, 1 seriously injured in shooting in University District

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Police Department. released the identity of a man who was shot in the University District last week.

On the night of May 4, officers were called to the 400 block of East 13th Avenue, near the Ohio State Fairgrounds, for a reported shooting. They found 54-year-old Jerry Harper Jr., who had been shot multiple times.

Police also found a second male victim nearby in the 400 block of East 14th Avenue with gunshot wounds.

Harper was taken to Grant Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1:55 a.m. The other shooting victim was taken to the same hospital and was listed in critical condition. There was no update on her condition.

Police did not provide any further information about a suspect or what led to the shooting.
