A murder investigation is underway in Evansville

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Evansville man is charged with murder after a person was stabbed Saturday evening.

Officers were dispatched to the Esquire Inn for a medical evaluation. Police said they found a man with a stab wound. According to police, the man was taken to a hospital where he died.

Dewayne Whitney Jr. was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

According to police, both Whitney and his girlfriend claim the victim attempted to sexually assault them earlier that night. The friend told police that Whitney came to the motel to confront the victim.

Police said surveillance video showed Whitney punching and shattering a plexiglass window in the lobby and then trying to get behind the counter. The officer said the victim then tried to stop Whitney, but Whitney pushed him against a wall.

After a fight, police said the victim was seen with blood on his hands.
