Rishabh Pant fined and suspended for one match

Mumbai: Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant will miss their next IPL match in 2024 due to a one-match suspension and a hefty fine. The punishment came after DC went slow during the game against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 7.

In a press release, the IPL spokesperson said, “Mr Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined and suspended for one match for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after his team posted a slow over rate during the game against him. “Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7.”

As it was his team’s third offense this season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the Impact Player, were individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less.

Pursuant to Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals appealed against the match referee’s decision. The complaint was then forwarded to the BCCI Ombudsman for consideration. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision remains final and binding, the press release said.
