EPS warns the public about releasing a violent sex offender

Edmonton police are warning the public about a convicted violent sex offender who is about to be released.

In a news release, EPS said it has “good reason to believe he will commit another violent crime against someone in the community.”

Ryan White, 42, will live in Edmonton upon his release and will be managed by the EPS Behavioral Assessment Unit.

Police said White physically and sexually harassed female adults, particularly vulnerable women, including sex workers.

“White also physically assaulted a female infant and an older adult female,” police said in the news release.

White is subject to a number of court-ordered conditions, including a curfew, prohibition from consuming or possessing alcohol or illegal drugs, and not visiting areas where sex workers are known to frequent.

He must also notify his designated supervisor before entering into a relationship with a woman and disclose his criminal history to the woman.

Whites are also required to wear an electronic monitoring device.

Police said the information about his release in the city was intended to give people an opportunity to take precautions and not to encourage any kind of vigilantism.
