19-year-old ‘passed out’ in Georgia, cops say. The investigation leads to 5 charges

An investigation into a 19-year-old who was hospitalized after becoming heavily intoxicated has led to charges against five people, Georgia officials say.

Glynn County police said they arrested Lauren C. Strother, 56, and Carlton J. Strother, 46, on Monday, April 17, in connection with the hospitalization of Trenton Lehrkamp. Each is accused of causing disorder in the household and contributing to the delinquency or addiction of a minor.

According to a press release, police also filed a complaint against two juveniles. The first juvenile is charged with simple assault and trespassing. The second juvenile is charged with possession and use of drug-related items.

A 17-year-old boy was also arrested in connection with a separate investigation related to the Lehrkamp case, officials said in a press conference with local media, reported by WSAV.

According to a police press release, the teen’s battery is charged.

The charges come after Lehrkamp, 19, was dropped off at Southeast Georgia Health Center on Tuesday evening, March 21. He was heavily intoxicated from a mixture of controlled substances and alcohol and was in critical condition.

At the time of his hospitalization, reports were circulating alleging that Lehrkamp was autistic and was being “force-fed” alcohol at a St. Simons residence.

In their press conference, the officials said it was untrue information being spread on social media.

Contrary to reports, Lehrkamp is “a 19-year-old high school graduate” who is not autistic, according to Keith Higgins, district attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit.

On March 17, Lehrkamp went to a dorm with high school students between the ages of 14 and 17, where he voluntarily drank alcohol, engaged in a ball fight and sat on a chair to get hosed, Higgins said. On March 21, Lehrkamp returned to the same apartment, where he again voluntarily drank alcohol.

“Trenton willingly drank alcohol until he passed out,” Higgins said. “Nobody forced alcohol down his throat or forced him to drink. Nobody shoved a funnel down his throat. Nobody urinated on him.”

Police said their investigation was ongoing.

St. Simons Island is located approximately 75 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida.
