The Jets’ Quinnen Williams was arrested for allegedly trying to board a plane with a weapon

New York Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams was reportedly arrested Thursday night after allegedly attempting to board a plane with a weapon at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

Andy Vasquez from USA today the News reported, noting that Williams, 22, was arrested after it was discovered that his permit to carry the weapon was only valid in Alabama.

NJ.com’s Darryl Slater noted that Williams is being processed by Port Authority Police and will be charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

According to Slater, the weapon was a Glock 19 pistol.

However, Cimini noted that New York law could still technically assume the gun was loaded because Williams was carrying ammunition for the gun.

Williams’ attorney, Alex Spiro, released a statement regarding the arrest and allegations against his client, according to agent Nicole Lynn:

Cimini noted that Williams’ first court appearance was scheduled for March 25, when he will receive his formal arraignment.

The Jets selected Williams with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama. After being selected, he was considered a key part of their defense for years and finished his rookie season with 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery in 13 games.

He was a consensus All-American and won the 2018 Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior defender during his college career.
