Donington-on-Bain pensioner jailed for sexually abusing a young girl at Lincoln Crown Court

A pensioner from Lincolnshire has been jailed for 17 years after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl.

Roger Faulkner, 69, from Donington-on-Bain, will also have to serve an extended sentence of one year after his release from prison and has been ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight also imposed a sexual harassment prevention order on Faulkner and banned him from working with children.

Faulkner, 69, of Neve Gardens, had denied two charges of rape of a child under 13.

He also had to deal with six other cases of sexual assault – all against the same girl, who was under 13 at the time and cannot be named.

It took a jury at Lincoln Crown Court just two hours to find Faulkner guilty of all eight offences.

The allegation of taking an indecent photo of a child was also placed on file.

Faulkner showed no reaction when the jury foreman announced the guilty verdicts.

Jeremy Janes, prosecuting, said the incidents occurred in 2013 and 2014 when the complainant was a child.

Mr. Janes addressed the jury and told them not to worry about the number of charges in the case.

“It may come down to a single judgment as to whether you believe the complainant’s evidence or whether you have doubts,” Mr Janes told the jury.

Faulkner, who was represented by defense lawyer Michael Cranmer-Brown, had pleaded not guilty to all eight offences.

The trial judge, Judge Sjolin Knight, told jurors it was understandable if they reacted emotionally to the nature of the sexual allegations – but urged them to focus on the evidence.

Faulkner was remanded in custody following the guilty verdicts, but Judge Sjolin Knight warned him that a custodial sentence was inevitable.

“It can only be one sentence,” Judge Sjolin Knight said.

Faulkner was jailed yesterday (Friday May 10).
