Álvaro Vives Suñé • Fundació Puigvert

Dr. Álvaro Vives is head of the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) Department and attending physician of the Andrology Department.

He has a degree in medicine and surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and has been a specialist in andrology since 1999, after training as a medical assistant at the Fundació Puigvert.

He was the first andrologist with a doctorate trained at Fundació Puigvert with the dissertation “Non-invasive approach to urethral condylomas”, presented in July 2020 and receiving the qualification “Excellent”. He also holds postgraduate degrees in prevention and control of sexual transmission and in andrological microsurgery from the University of Barcelona (UB).

He was an advisor to the Ministry of Health on Sexually Transmitted Infections and a professor of the “Master’s Degree in International Health and Tropical Medicine” at the University of Barcelona, ​​​​the “Master’s Degree in Human Sexuality” and the “Master’s Degree in Clinical Sexology and Sexual Health” at the IESP – University of Barcelona .

He currently teaches in the “Master’s Degree in Andrology” at Fundació Puigvert – Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya and in the “Master’s Degree in Reproductive Biology and Assisted Human Reproductive Techniques” at Dexeus.

His main areas of specialization are the non-invasive approach to urethral condylomas, sexuality, human papilloma virus infections and male infertility.

He has published several scientific articles in national and international journals on andrology, urology and sexually transmitted diseases as well as book chapters on sexually transmitted diseases.

He has given numerous presentations and lectures at national and international congresses and has been invited to lecture at the most recent European congresses in andrology, gynecology and sexually transmitted infections.

Award for Best Presentation at the 16th National Congress of Andrology (2013).

Ángel Bayo Prize for the best clinical case published by the Revista Internacional de Andrología (2011 – 2012).

Award for the best paper on sexually transmitted diseases at the 39th National Congress of Dermatology and Venereology (2011).

Award for second best paper at the 24th Congress of the American Confederation of Urology (1998).

Honorary member of the Chilean Society of Urology.

Member of the International Union Against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI).

Member of the European Academy of Andrology (EAA).

Member of the Scientific and Management Committee of the Registry of Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Catalonia (RITS).
