On Friday morning, authorities seized hundreds of marijuana plants from an illegal grow operation in the Somerset County town of Harmony. Members of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Waterville Police Department worked with the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Drug Enforcement Admin. U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Office of Cannabis Policy are requesting the execution of a search warrant at a home on South Road. No one was home at the time of the search. It was the culmination of a months-long investigation. In total, authorities seized 1,277 plants and 25 pounds of processed marijuana. The Somerset County District Attorney’s Office will file criminal charges against the owner after reviewing the case. The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office has already executed 15 search warrants at illegal grow facilities since the end of January 2024. The search warrants were executed in Ripley, Harmony, Skowhegan, Madison, Norridgewock, Mercer and Solon. They seized 18,000 marijuana plants and 400 pounds of processed cannabis, leading to the arrests of eight people who now face drug trafficking and marijuana cultivation crimes.
