AKIPRESS.COM – The incident with the use of firearms occurred on May 7 on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the Border Guard Service of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The border guards of Kyrgyzstan noticed shepherds, citizens of Tajikistan, grazing cattle on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, 250-300 meters from the border, near the village of Ak-Bosogo, Leilek district, Batken region.

Citizens of Tajikistan ignored the Kyrgyz border guards’ request to leave the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Instead, they started throwing stones at the border guards.

One of the shepherds fired 2-3 shots in the direction of the Kyrgyz border guards.

In order to prevent the situation from escalating further, the Kyrgyz border guards fired warning shots into the air. The Tajik herders then retreated to Tajikistan. None of the Kyrgyz border guards were injured.

According to unconfirmed information, one of the Tajik citizens suffered a leg wound.

“However, when and where the wound was sustained is unknown as Tajik law enforcement authorities have only provided a photo. A meeting of representatives of the border authorities is expected,” the border guard service said.

The situation on the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border is currently stable.
