Suspect in killing of teenager at large after shooting in Las Vegas neighborhood

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A gunman is at large after fleeing the scene of a deadly shooting in a west Las Vegas neighborhood Saturday.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives converged on the area of ​​Vegas Drive and Robin Street after a teenager was shot outside a residence in the 2300 block of Goldhill Way.

As Lt. Sharing some preliminary details of the investigation, Jason Johansson said the teenager lived in the apartment where he was shot.

The teen was outside the home when he was approached by another man who was “described as a possible black male in his late teens,” Johansson explained. The suspect was said to be shirtless and wearing blue jeans.

The teenager and the suspect chatted briefly before shots were fired, Johansson said.

The shooter was seen leaving the area heading south on Robin Street. Despite establishing a containment zone around the area and deploying K9 support, police were unable to immediately locate the shooter.

The victim was transported to the trauma center at University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Johansson said.

The police currently believe that the victim and the suspect knew each other and that the murder appeared to be an isolated incident.

Johansson noted that investigators will likely remain in the area throughout the night looking for video evidence and additional witnesses to the murder.
