The 21-year-old Fresno Coroner ID man was killed after a collision with a tractor-trailer carrying grapefruit

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the man killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening.

Cedric Gonzalez, 21, of Fresno was killed when his sedan became trapped under a large truck. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers responded to the crash at Highway 41 and South Avenue near Easton at 9:47 p.m.

According to the CHP, a 57-year-old man driving a tractor-trailer loaded with grapefruit stopped at a stop sign in the westbound lane of South Avenue at the intersection while preparing to turn left.

The driver crossed the northbound lane and stopped at the intersection to wait for southbound traffic before turning left.

CHP said his trailer was blocking the No. 1 northbound lane of Highway 41 as Gonzalez drove north in his Nissan and approached the stopped truck and trailer, failing to change lanes before hitting the left collided with the rear side of the semi-trailer.

Gonzalez was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

It is not known whether alcohol or drugs played a role, CHP said.

The investigation is ongoing.
