Rudy Moreno, “Godfather of Latino comedy,” has died at the age of 66

Los Angeles comedian Rudy Moreno remembers his colleagues as “The Godfather of Latino Comedy” died after a recent hospitalization. He was 66.

Moreno’s death was confirmed to TMZ by his agent, about three weeks after the “Lopez Tonight” veteran was treated in the intensive care unit while battling pneumonia and receiving dialysis. A cause of death was not announced.

Moreno’s wife Arlene — who had also just been hospitalized — told TMZ on April 29 that her husband had been in the intensive care unit for about a week, but said both she and his agent were having difficulty contacting Moreno , which was reportedly not listed in the hospital’s system.

After news of his death, Ken Jeong was “really heartbroken.” tweeted that “countless comedians owe their beginnings” to Moreno, whom the actor thanked for “constantly supporting me and giving me time on stage in all his shows.”

“I know you make heaven laugh,” the “Hangover” star continued.

In addition to his stand-up career, Moreno’s career has also included appearances on shows such as Dave, Arrested Development, Criminal Minds, Monk, George Lopez, Judging Amy and Everybody Loves Raymond.

The LA native also wrote Gabriel Iglesias’ 2011 “Stand-Up Revolution.”

Moreno is survived by his wife and their children.
