IPL 2024: Reason why Rishabh Pant faces match ban before RCB vs DC game

Delhi Capitals (DC)’ captain Rishabh pants was given a one-match ban by the IPL governing body for violating the IPL Code of Conduct in the recent encounter against him Rajasthan Royals (RR). The suspension means Pant will miss the crucial clash against him Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday.

A gradual increase in crime leads to sanctions

Pant’s suspension is due to his team’s slow over-speed in the 56th game Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 7, 2024. The Capitals captain was also fined INR 30 lakh for the violation.

Third violation of the season

This is not the first time Pant has been penalized for a slow over-yardage offense this season. Earlier, on April 4, he was fined INR 24 lakh for a similar offense during a match Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Before that, in another game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK)Pant and his team were fined INR 12 lakh for the same violation.

Appeal rejected by BCCI Ombudsman

Although the Capitals appealed the match referee’s decision, the BCCI Ombudsman upheld the decision and declared it final and binding. Consequently, Pant’s ban remains in effect, putting a damper on the Capitals’ ambitions in the ongoing IPL season.

Impact on the main cities of Delhi

Pant’s absence in the crucial game against RCB increases the pressure on the Capitals, who are currently fifth in the points table with 12 points from as many games. With playoff goals at stake, the team must quickly strategize and regroup to compensate for the absence of their influential captain.
