DC captain Rishabh Pant is suspended for one match and will miss the key match against RCB in IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been suspended for the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday evening. The 26-year-old was suspended for one match and fined INR 30,000 for his team’s slow inflated performance in the May 7 match against Rajasthan Royals. The disciplinary action was taken because the Capitals were found to be 10 minutes behind schedule at the start of the last over of that game. This incident was the team’s third slow speed violation this season, resulting in even harsher penalties.

Because of these repeated violations, the referee’s decision to impose a ban and fine on Pant was significant. Additionally, the rest of the Delhi Capitals squad, including the substitute player, were fined INR 12 lakh each or 50% of their match fee, whichever is less.

Following the umpire’s decision, the Delhi Capitals management filed an appeal, which was subsequently referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for further consideration. After a virtual hearing, the Ombudsman upheld the original decision and confirmed that the match referee’s conclusions were final and binding.

The timing of Pant’s suspension is particularly significant as he will be absent from the crucial upcoming match against RCB on Sunday, May 12. This game is particularly important as Delhi Capitals continue to work towards securing a place in the IPL playoffs. Pant’s absence from such a crucial game could pose additional challenges for the team as it looks to maintain its momentum in the tournament.
