Rishabh Pant was penalized for maintaining slow over rate and suspended for Delhi Capitals’ match against RCB

IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been penalized for violating the IPL code of conduct during their match against Rajasthan Royals played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 7.

Pant was fined INR 30 lakh as punishment and was also suspended from Delhi Capitals’ next match, which will be played against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, May 12.

This is a major setback for Delhi Capitals as they will be without their captain Pant in the crucial clash considering they are still alive in the race to make it to the playoffs.

“Mr Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined and suspended for one match for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after his team posted a slow over rate against Rajasthan Royals in the 56th match of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024,” the press release said.

“As it was his team’s third offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less.

“In accordance with Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals have appealed against the decision of the match referee. The appeal was then forwarded to the BCCI Ombudsman for consideration. The Ombudsman held a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision remains final and binding.”

Notably, DC were 10 minutes behind the clock at the start of the final over in the game against Rajasthan, which they ultimately won by 20 runs.

This was their penultimate home game of the season and a win helped them stay in the tournament.

DC are fifth in the points table with six wins and twelve points and need to win both remaining games to have a chance of a place in the last four.
