1 dead after crash on Turnpike in Elyria

ELYRIA, Ohio – A man has died following a crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Elyria, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

According to a media release, the incident occurred at around 12:34 p.m. on Saturday. An initial investigation revealed that a 23-year-old Subaru driver, Jackson Williams of Broadview Heights, veered off the left side of the highway after losing control of his vehicle.

Williams’ vehicle then struck the concrete median, came back onto the roadway and struck the trailer of a tractor-trailer operated by 30-year-old Jonathan Pate of Texas. A Dodge Ram driven by 59-year-old Gary Clark of Michigan struck the two vehicles after they collided on the roadway.

Williams was pronounced dead shortly after emergency responders arrived. Pate and Clark suffered no injuries as a result of the accident.

According to OSHP, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
