A punk rock fan was left partially paralyzed and unable to move her arms after a singer launched himself into the crowd and landed on her head during a concert in New York last month.

Bird Piché, 24, suffered a “catastrophic spinal cord injury” during the Trophy Eyes concert at Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York, on April 30, according to WGRZ.

Footage posted to the Australian post-punk rock band’s Reddit page shows the moment frontman John Floreani jumps off the stage and is perched in the air by the noisy crowd.

Piché’s pink hair can be seen flowing to the music near the front of the stage with others in the packed room of 230 people moments before the singer jumped.

Floreani flies off the stage in the blink of an eye and lands directly on her head while others lift the lead singer up, seemingly unaware that she is seriously injured.

The 24-year-old never reappears in the 13-second clip.

“The video is wild because unless you know that someone was hurt in the video, you would never expect that,” Piché’s friend Leo Wolter Tejera told the outlet. “Like it’s just an average step dive.”

Wolter Tejera said Reddit users who claimed to be in the crowd thought Piché “passed out” and went to get her a cold cloth.

However, the show was abruptly interrupted when other spectators saw her still on the ground.

“She wasn’t getting up and John, the singer, was there with her,” Wolter Tejera said.

Floreani rode in the ambulance with her devoted fan to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where she was rushed to “emergency trauma surgery.”

Piché suffered spinal cord injuries and his hospital stay is indefinite, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help cover his medical costs.

She will need extensive rehabilitation immediately after being released, Wolter Tejeras said.

“From what I understand and the conversation we’ve heard so far from the doctors, these are catastrophic spinal injuries, you just can’t tell and it’s to them It takes a lot of time and patience to see what the result will really be,” said Wolter Tejeras. the catch.

Trophy Eyes said the incident “has shaken us all to our core.”

“Out of respect for the family, we have refrained from speaking publicly about this until now, but with the blessing of their family, we can now say how heartbroken we are to be here now,” wrote the group. “Our friend Bird is now recovering, but he still has a long way to go. »

“The situation has shaken us all to our core and we ask for patience as we seek to help Bird through this difficult time.”

The group says it remains in “close contact” with Piché’s family and “seeks to help Bird through this difficult time.”

A bartender at Mohawk Place says the venue has had a “strict no crowd surfing policy” since 2011, according to WKBW.

“There are signs posted throughout the venue and notice has been included in emails regarding this show with the show promoter and the band itself,” Mohawk Place general manager Mike Thor wrote in a statement to the media.

Wolter Tejeras, a musician, expressed the dangers fans face at shows that attract a high level of physical energy and the antics can be like mosh pitting for spectators.

“The problem with Mosh Pits is that there has to be consent. The number one rule of the pit is if someone falls, you pick them up and you don’t drag anyone into the pit that didn’t want to be there,” Wolter Tejeras told WKBW.

“The problem with what happened at that time was that there was no implied consent. There was just a body falling from the sky onto a person who didn’t know it was going to happen.
