Police chief rescues baby groundhogs in Bull Valley and transports them to local wildlife rehab group

The police chief in Bull Valley rescued two baby groundhogs and took them to a wildlife rescue rehabilitation group for treatment.

Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation announced Friday that they have welcomed two baby groundhogs, the smallest groundhogs ever taken into their facility.

The organization is a licensed, nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation center based in Barrington that cares for injured and orphaned wildlife.

Bull Valley Police Chief Tracy Dickens brought the groundhogs to the facility for care.

The first was brought in on Tuesday and was extremely hypothermic and unresponsive when admitted.

The groundhog has improved dramatically since then, the organization said.

The police chief and public utility employees had been looking for the siblings since Tuesday and found the second one on Friday.

The second groundhog arrived at the facility in relatively good condition but was a bit thin, the organization said.

The rehabilitation center will raise the two marmots until they are old enough to be released back into the wild.

The Bull Valley Police Department thanked Flint Creek Wildlife for taking in the small animals. “Thank you… (for) all the hard work you do for the region’s wildlife!”
