According to Cohasset police, SUV rolls downhill through sports field

Three people, including two children, were injured when an out-of-control sport utility vehicle rolled across a sports field where children were playing in the Massachusetts town, according to Cohasset police. Police Chief William Quigley said that around 10:40 a.m. Saturday, his department received numerous 911 calls about the vehicle driving across the front athletic field at Cohasset Middle/High School on Pond Street. Responding officers learned that the SUV, a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban, had rolled out of a parking space down a steep hill and onto a soccer field where, according to Quigley, kindergarten-aged children were playing lacrosse at the time. Quigley said coaches and parents were able to quickly get the children out of the way of the vehicle, which had no driver inside. However, he was carrying two small children who were in car seats. The police chief said the SUV collided with a lacrosse bus as it made its way across the field before crashing through a chain-link fence, crossing Pond Street and eventually coming to a stop in a nearby yard, where 150 Pond St. Cohasset Fire Department paramedics treated the two small children in the SUV and the bus that was hit by the vehicle at the scene of the accident. Quigley said the children and coach suffered minor injuries and no one was taken to the hospital in connection with the incident. “Thanks to the quick actions of trainers and bystanders, we were able to avert a major tragedy today,” Quigley said in a statement. Quigley said no charges have been filed at this time, but noted that the incident remains under investigation.
