Durham police investigating two fatal shootings, suspect in custody, police say

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Durham Police are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred Saturday morning.

At 11:12 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a disturbance involving a weapons call near the intersection of Southwest Durham Drive and Durham Chapel Hill Boulevard. Upon arrival, police located a vehicle stopped in the right turn lane heading north on SW. Durham Dr.

A woman was found in the vehicle with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where she was later pronounced dead.

At 11:20 a.m., a Durham police officer, who was off duty at the time, heard gunshots in the parking lot of a business in the 3700 block of Mount Moriah Road.

The officer responded and found a man in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said based on the investigation, the two shootings appear to be related.

The investigation is ongoing and it appears to be an isolated incident. Police say a suspect is in custody and at least one of the victims is believed to be acquainted with each other.
