Teen ‘largely decapitated’ in sword attack in London

He appeared before His Honor Judge Lucraft for a ten-minute hearing, with a trial date set for February 3 next year.

Mr Monzo, wearing a gray prison tracksuit and flanked by three port officials, spoke only to confirm his name and give his date of birth.

Describing the case, Tom Little KC said the charges against the defendant spanned a period of approximately 20 minutes and began when a van was intentionally driven towards a citizen who was thrown into a garden.

He continued: “The defendant then gets out of the van with a sword. The victim says “I don’t know you”, the defendant says “I don’t care, I’ll kill you” and then attacks him with the sword.

“Soon after, Daniel Anjorin goes to school and is attacked from behind with a sword to the neck and head, mostly decapitating the 14-year-old boy.”

Mr Little said the defendant was then accused of assaulting a paramedic before breaking into a stranger’s home and attacking a man in his bedroom in front of his wife and baby.

Mr Monzo is also accused of assaulting two police officers before being verbally abused and arrested.

He next faces a hearing at the Old Bailey on July 23.
