How Deion Jones could help the Buffalo Bills defense in 2024

About a week ago, the Buffalo Bills signed Deion Jones to a one-year deal. NFL analyst Adam Schefter was the first to report it on ESPN. Jones played in 13 games and started only three in 2023. He finished with 35 total tackles, a sack and an interception as well. It’s been a bad season of production for him, as he’s approaching 30 and reaching the twilight part of his career.

As it stands, Buffalo’s linebacker room has its two best players, Terrel Bernard at middle linebacker and then Matt Milano at the other sport. Milano is currently nursing a leg injury that will impact him heading into training camp.

The Bills will have more depth at linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio who they selected in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a breakout year for the Washington Huskies, his senior year recording 94 tackles.

This not only gives Jones a reinforcement in the depth department with the linebackers, but it also gives him the opportunity to guide Ulofoshio as he adjusts to life and playing in the NFL.

Jones could be a good depth player for Buffalo’s two main linebackers. Overall, if you look at Jones’ production last season, this seems like the best-suited position for him, especially when he only signed a one-year deal.

The signing puts an experienced linebacker in the core who can fill gaps and play when Bernard and Milano need rest. This also creates a mentorship opportunity for him and new recruit Ulofoshio. This puts Jones on a new but beneficial career path for both him and the Buffalo Bills.
