Douglas Houston obituary – Reading, PA

Douglas D. “Doug” Houston

He was the husband of the late Donna R. (Redding) Houston, who died June 30, 1993.

Born in Meyersdale, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Hugh L. and Catharine M. (Wiland) Houston.

He was office manager of Columbia Gas System in Pittsburgh for 12 years, business manager of the Gettysburg School District from 1964 to 1967, and business manager of the Wilson School District for 23 years, retiring in 1990.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Womelsdorf.

He was a member of the Meyersdale Masonic Lodge #554 F&AM and the Scottish Rite Valley of Reading.

Surviving daughters are: Pamela M., wife of William E. Heckler of Upper Bern township; Sharon L., wife of David VanMeter of Petersburg, West Virginia; and Heather B. Houston of Upper Bern Township; and grandchildren: Jessica White, David, Dustin, Amanda VanMeter.

Services will be held at the Phoebe Berks Village Chapel on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Adams County.
