The search for a Caddo Co. fugitive continues and the cause is under investigation

ANADARKO, Okla. (KFOR) – The Caddo County Sheriff’s Office told News 4 Friday that an investigation is underway into how three jail inmates escaped from custody.

Police first reported the escape Friday morning in Anadarko, indicating that officers had begun searching for the missing inmates.

According to the Caddo County Sheriff’s Office, Davantae Winters, Michael Brown and Hector Hernandez escaped custody in Anadarko.

Winters was being held on charges of first-degree murder and domestic violence, Brown on charges of grand larceny and Hernandez on charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs and possession of marijuana.

“We are currently making every possible effort to take these boys back into custody,” said Thomas Adkins, an investigator with the Caddo County Sheriff’s Office.

Adkins said the video is being reviewed to determine the exact time the three men escaped, but right now authorities are focusing on clues to bring them back into custody.

“Don’t approach her,” Adkins said. “Call 9-1-1. Give us all the information you can and don’t contact them.”

Adkins said the sheriff’s office coordinated with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Anadarko police and other unnamed agencies in the area in the search.

“We get information from family members, people who actually have some sort of relationship with these people,” Adkins said.

When asked directly by a News 4 employee, Adkins was unable to answer how either man got out.

“This is still under investigation,” Adkins said. “We’re looking into it. We’ve actually gotten some people to figure out how they escaped. They’re re-watching video footage so we can fix some issues later.”

While Adkins didn’t clarify what exactly those things might reveal, News 4 staffers didn’t notice any obvious signs of how the three men escaped from the prison itself.

Anadarko resident Joanna Munoz, who also owns a business, said she was unsettled.

“It makes you kind of skeptical about walking to your car alone,” Munoz said. “Because you don’t know if they’re waiting around the corner or what’s going to happen.”

A News 4 staff member asked Adkins if there was any concern that there could be more escape attempts in the near future.

“At this point there is no concern about additional inmates coming out,” Adkins said.
