4 free agents the Houston Rockets are glad they didn’t sign this summer

Last summer, the Houston Rockets had money to spend. As expected, they burned it.

You are entitled to your opinion on the signings made by the Rockets. We have already expressed ours. Here’s a fact that can’t be denied: The Rockets have used their cap space to significantly improve their team.

In this article, we are not looking at free agents signed by the Rockets. We’re looking at those that didn’t land. More specifically, we are looking for free agents that we are happy to have on different teams.

Here are four free agents the Rockets should be happy they didn’t sign last summer.

Williams is the only player on this list who is not yet part of the team that signed him last summer. It is not a good sign.

It should come as no surprise that the Mavericks moved him at the deadline. Williams averaged 10.3 points per game with a true shooting percentage (TS%) of 58.8 in 2023-24.

These numbers are good. Williams’ deal isn’t exorbitant either. He earns around $13 million per year.

Yet Williams has unfortunately developed a reputation as an irritant in the locker room. He doesn’t have enough of an impact as a player to warrant any sort of headache attached to him. The Rockets spent this season establishing their culture, and it’s for the best that they did it without Williams.
