Statesville motorcyclist killed in Catawba County crash

The fatal accident occurred shortly before midnight on Friday.

STATESVILLE, N.C. – A Statesville man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Catawba County Friday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The man was identified as 56-year-old Wesley Todd Crawford.

The accident occurred on Oxford School Road around 11:40 p.m.

Crawford was riding his motorcycle north and crossed the center line of the road, investigators said. He left the road to the left and overturned.

Crawford died at the scene of the accident.

“The initial investigation indicates that excessive speed contributed to the accident,” highway police investigators said.

The roadway in the area was closed for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated.
