Person lying on the tracks is hit and killed by a train

Someone was struck and killed by a train in Cherokee County on Friday evening. According to the coroner’s office, it happened just before 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of 13th Street. Officials said the victim was lying outside the train tracks. The train driver reported that he blew his horn several times. We were told the person never moved and died there. When this happened, the train was traveling from Atlanta to Charlotte. We don’t yet know who this victim was. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
