Mira Sorvino is deeply saddened by the overturning of Harvey Weinstein’s convictions in New York

Mira Sorvino is ‘brave’ Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 convictions in New York have been overturned.
The 56-year-old “Mighty Aphrodite” actress – who was among the first stars to accuse Weinstein of misconduct – rejected the move after jailed Hollywood producer Arthur Aidala’s lawyer claimed he did not receive a fair trial as a result of the decisions Trial judge James Burke maintained that Weinstein’s character was on trial, not the allegations he faced.
Mira said on X: “Horrified! A day after #DenimDay to honor survivors of sexual violence, Harvey Weinstein’s conviction was overturned, in part because Molyneux witnesses testified to previous horrific acts, such as lioness Annabella Sciorra.
“When did courts stop allowing evidence of past misconduct to be admitted?
“He is a prolific serial predator who has raped/harmed over 200 women! I am outraged that the justice system biases predators rather than victims.”
Mira then added a screenshot of her post in a carousel to her Instagram account, which also included an announcement of the verdict.
She said in a caption on Instagram: “Gutsick. To all my sisters/brothers/fellow survivors out there: it just means we have to love harder and fight harder.
“Evil rears its ugly head, but we are the army of light and we will prevail.”
Weinstein, 72, was arrested and charged with rape in May 2018 and found guilty two years later.
The following month he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
The following July, he was extradited to Los Angeles and in December 2022 he was found guilty on three of seven counts and sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison, to be served separately from his New York sentence.
But on Thursday (04/25/24) Weinstein’s New York sentence was officially lifted.
The verdict does not affect the conviction in California and Weinstein currently remains in prison.
