Conor Benn’s interim suspension was reinstated following an appeal

Conor Benn has been provisionally suspended from fighting again after appeals from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) and UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) were successful.

The 27-year-old from London’s career was thrown into turmoil in October 2022 after he tested positive twice for the banned drug clomiphene ahead of a fight against Chris Eubank Jr., which was subsequently shelved during fight week.

That interim ban was lifted by the independent National Anti-Doping Panel in July last year and Benn improved his record to 23-0 with a win over American Peter Dobson in Las Vegas in February.

However, BBBofC General Secretary Robert W. Smith said in a statement on Friday

He said: “The BBBofC can confirm that Conor Benn is subject to an interim ban prohibiting him from taking part in any capacity (or supporting any other athlete in any capacity) in any competition, event or activity organized by , convened, approved or recognized.” BBBofC or another sport compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code.

“Ukad and the BBBoC were successful in their respective appeals against a decision by an arbitral tribunal of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel in July 2023, and Mr. Benn’s interim suspension was reinstated by the Court of Appeal following these successful appeals.”

Benn previously admitted he was no longer interested in boxing after his failed drug tests, but said he was willing to “spend every last penny” to prove his innocence.
