VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Family members told News 3 the name of the 16-year-old who was shot and killed Tuesday near Bryce Lane in Virginia Beach was Jordan Williams.

“I just wish it wouldn’t happen like this,” said Camaiya Spain, Williams’ sister.

Spain said her family is trying to stay strong after learning her brother was killed late Tuesday afternoon.

Spain said their last conversation was last week and they talked about what he was working toward after school.

“I will never have the experience of him having a niece or a nephew or seeing him walk across the stage,” Spain said. “The main thing he was worried about was school, and you took that dream away from him.”

According to current information, Spain said her brother was at the basketball courts at Level Green Park near his home when he felt unsafe around a group of people.

She said she was told her brother ran home and was later shot multiple times near a Bryce Lane drive-thru.

Police have arrested a 16-year-old and charged him with first-degree murder.

“My father is really hurt about this, that’s the main thing because it’s his second attempt at losing a child at a young age to gun violence,” Spain said.

Spain said Friday marked the fourth anniversary of the death of his 15-year-old sister, also a victim of gun violence.

Spain said this was her family at her sister’s vigil four years ago.

Williams’ family members also made the following statements when asked about his death:

“My baby was taken away from me when I was 16, I will never be able to hug him, kiss him, go on family vacations, go out to eat with him at his favorite places or watch him eat his baby driver’s license,” Ree’Anna Williams, Williams’ mother, said in a statement. “I will never get the chance to see his smile again, he will never play basketball, go to prom or graduate again. My son had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up any room.”

“To my sweet, stubborn brother, I loved you then, I love you now, I will love you forever, to infinity and beyond,” Camani Spain. “Gone but not forgotten, gone but here forever. I no longer live in this world, but always and forever nearby. I love you forever, words can express.”

“To my little brother, I will always love you and you will forever be a part of our hearts,” said Jaz Williams, Williams’ sister. “I will never forget the memories we shared. You will always be my sweet, gentle giant.”

Spain said her family is planning something for Bird in the coming days, but as they remember the memories they had with him, they are asking the community to make sure their guns are secured.

“Lock up your weapons, that’s the main thing. Don’t let children get hold of weapons. If your child has one, just take it,” Spain said.
