Pennsylvania: The state police trooper who arrested Philly LGBTQ officer Celena Morrison-McLean and her husband are no longer on the force

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A Pennsylvania State Police trooper who arrested the director of Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs and her husband is no longer on the force.

A state police spokesperson confirmed to Action News on Friday that the trooper is “no longer employed by our agency.”

However, the spokesman said no further details could be provided as the agency does not comment on personnel matters.

The soldier’s name was not released.

Celena Morrison-McLean and her husband Darius McLean were involved in the incident on westbound I-76 on Saturday, March 2nd.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on westbound I-76 around 9 a.m. for a vehicle with multiple violations. She filmed part of the incident.

“I work for the mayor,” Morrison-McLean can be heard shouting in the video.

In a press conference a few days after the incident, Morrison-McLean explained her comments.

“Fearing that the worst was about to happen, I shouted the mayor several times to the officer I work for, hoping to make him realize that he was dealing with people he didn’t have to be afraid of “, she said.

Morrison-McLean was driving a gray Infiniti sedan, the vehicle the officer originally stopped.

McLean then drove up in a green Dodge sedan and parked behind the officer. That prompted the officer to approach the Dodge.

State police say McLean was verbally combative and resisted arrest.

Video of McLean’s arrest spread online and shows the officer standing over him as he lies on the ground.

“This is my man. That’s my man please,” Morrison-McLean says in the video.

As the officer attempts to handcuff McLean, Morrison-McLean captures this on her cell phone before a scuffle ensues.

Both Morrison-McLean and McLean were taken into custody on resisting arrest and other related charges, but were released from custody later that night.

The McLeans said in the March news conference that it was not the traffic stop itself, but the way they were treated, that was a concern.

“The police officer was aggressive. I think it’s clear from the video that the officer was aggressive,” said her attorney, Kevin Mincey.

The McLeans also said during the press conference that they would pursue civil legal action.
