Man killed in shooting after dispute reported near Modesto, deputies say

STANISLAUS COUNTY — An investigation is underway after a man was shot in Stanislaus County Friday afternoon, officials said.

The shooting happened just after 3 p.m. in the 400 block of Kerr Avenue, near Tenaya Drive. Deputies said they responded to reports of an argument and shots fired.

Before officers arrived, they said a person driving by placed the victim in their vehicle and drove the man to a nearby ambulance, where the man was pronounced dead.

The criminal police responded and took over the investigation.

The man, who was about 30 years old, could not be identified. No suspect is currently known.

Parts of Kerr Avenue will be closed for several hours.
