The Aspinwall Tavern was alerted by consumers about rodent droppings

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An Aspinwall restaurant has been hit with a consumer alert after an inspector reported the discovery of mouse droppings and a dead rodent.

The consumer alert was issued for Tavern in the Wall on Commercial Avenue following an inspection on Thursday, May 2nd.

According to the report, mouse droppings were found on a cutting board in the food preparation area in the basement. According to the report, there were also mouse droppings on the floor behind the dishwasher, in open spaces behind the kitchen refrigerators and in the basement.

The inspector reported seeing a dead baby mouse outside near the grease containers, which is a repeat violation.

“Pest control services have identified grease accumulation under the fryer as a contributing factor to ongoing pest activity in the last five reports dating back to 4/11/24,” the inspection report states.

The report also cited other low-risk violations, such as “heavily soiled” kitchen walls and parts of the kitchen floor that were “in poor condition.”

As of Monday afternoon, the restaurant’s billboard status was listed as yellow on Allegheny County’s website, meaning it has a consumer alert. If the consumer warning is removed, the health department website will be updated.

According to the Ministry of Health, a consumer warning is intended to indicate that the company does not comply with minimum food safety standards and that the conditions could pose a danger to the public.
