Rich New Yorker accused of raping British tourist in Mykonos hotel bathroom

A 30-year-old New York man was arrested on the idyllic Greek island of Mykonos after he allegedly followed a 22-year-old British tourist into a hotel toilet and raped her.

The woman, whose name was withheld for privacy reasons, said the man, whose name was also withheld in accordance with Greek media laws and criminal procedures, was part of a group of American revelers partying at the pub. She told police that he had bragged about his family’s wealth in their conversation before the incident.

The group the American was with then followed the group of British tourists to the hotel where the victim was staying to continue the party. The alleged victim told police that she was not interested in a romantic interlude with the American, but he insisted and followed her when she got up from the table. Once in the bathroom, she said he “immobilized” her after forcing his way into the toilet cubicle, where she protested that she did not want to have sex, according to the local Greek news agency Proto-theme.

She told Greek police that he held her. “He forced me to have sex with him while I tried to push him away,” she told the Syros district prosecutor, according to Greek media. “He remained persistent and with his strength managed to crush me and immobilize me.”

The woman immediately reported the incident to police, who arrested him at the hotel and reportedly admitted to having sex in the toilet but insisted it was consensual. Police have carried out a forensic examination on the woman and the man could be charged this week.

News of the alleged incident comes a day after a 22-year-old Danish woman claimed she was raped by a yet-unidentified attacker who followed her to her hotel room and forced his way in. This man has been identified as a white male. He is in his mid-20s and has dark hair. He was not arrested.
