Rashee Rice’s new report could complicate a possible suspension

A new unconfirmed report suggests Rashee Rice may also have had behavioral issues at SMU. According to Mike Florio of Pro football talkDuring Rice’s time in college, an unreported incident occurred that resulted in him landing on some teams’ draft boards.

With Rice under investigation for an alleged assault at a Dallas nightclub early Monday morning and awaiting trial in the March car accident, reports like this complicate matters.

I don’t believe this report will impact Rice’s possible suspension, as Florio suggests, and it’s possible the Chiefs already knew the story if it’s true. In any case, this is the first time the public has heard this particular allegation.

“According to multiple sources, several teams learned during the pre-draft process of an alleged incident involving Rice during his time at SMU,” Florio writes. “Rice believed former SMU basketball player Kendric Davis was seeing Rice’s girlfriend. According to the specific information gathered by at least one team, Rice and some of his friends went to an SMU basketball game.”

He continues: “Rice (or someone with him) fired multiple bullets into Kendric Davis’ empty car, according to the specific information gathered by at least one team.”

Florio notes that according to his sources, every team in the NFL was aware of the alleged incident, including the Chiefs.

It is important to remember that this is just a report and we do not know whether it is true or not. Kansas City has learned to take Florio’s statements with a grain of salt, although it’s certainly not good news for Rice that this accusation is now public.

“The incident could be relevant to the NFL if it imposes disciplinary action on Rice under the personal conduct policy,” Florio suspects. I don’t think an unreported incident would have any impact on the ultimate punishment from the NFL’s perspective, although in theory it could impact how the Chiefs monitor Rice going forward.
