5 people, including teenagers, arrested in raid on Omaha supermarket

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Five suspects, including a juvenile, were arrested in connection with a drug operation in Omaha that resulted in the seizure of 50 pounds of marijuana and nearly $150,000 in cash via three separate search warrants.

The Omaha Police Department says its drug unit has launched an investigation into Goodies Vape & Tobacco at the corner of North 90th and Lake Street.

Investigators searched the store Thursday and seized a “large quantity” of illegal THC products, various psychedelic drugs and firearms. As part of the investigation, detectives also searched a home just blocks from Goodies near North 90th and Parker streets. At the apartment, authorities seized 54 pounds of marijuana and approximately $140,000 in cash.

Officers executed a third search warrant at the home of 36-year-old Yaser Shohatee – the owner of Goodies – where they found ammunition, drug records and about $8,000 in cash. Police allege Shohatee was also carrying a handgun at the time of his arrest and admitted in an interview to selling illegal products at his store.

Shohatee was ultimately booked into jail on one count of delivery of marijuana, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of concealed carry firearms violation.

Four other suspects are behind bars in connection with the drug raid.

Helal Alshohatee, 26, and Gabriel Nuno, 20, were each charged with one count of marijuana and fentanyl – both possession with intent to distribute – while Assef Shami, 32, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, which was a psychedelic , was charged, according to police.

The final suspect, a juvenile, was booked into the Douglas County Youth Center on one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
