Allegedly women are being attacked in Barton Hills, Zilker attacks

One victim told KVUE that her attacker stood over her after hitting her and believed he was about to kill her.

AUSTIN, Texas – Neighbors say a man is responsible for several brutal attacks on women near the Barton Creek Greenbelt off South Lamar, and he’s still out there.

KVUE exclusively heard from one of the victims who wanted to hide her identity because she said her attacker was still out there.

“I have never felt unsafe walking in this area,” she said.

This is what a woman felt before she was attacked on May 3rd.

“A few minutes into my walk, as I was walking along Rabb Road, a man comes up the hill on Wilkie Street. He turns the corner. I thought, ‘Oh, this doesn’t look good,'” she said.

“He sped up, lunged at me, took his arm, swung, swung out and then just hit me, and he aimed right at my temple and hit me so hard,” she said. “I look up and he’s standing over me like this, ready to throw more punches or drag me and rape me and kill me.”

She says she was able to get up and run while he chased her until a neighbor came to her aid.

“The attacker stopped abruptly and when he heard the neighbor’s voice, he fled down the hill,” she said.

Michael Bullock, president of the Austin police union, says such attacks are becoming more common.

“I’ve personally worked this area on patrol, night shift, assaults, you know, people getting attacked, just going about their daily lives, which unfortunately doesn’t seem to be a rarity these days,” Bullock said.

Bullock says even if police make an arrest, the suspect may not stay in jail.

“If someone is released, it is beyond APD’s control. That’s up to prosecutors and judges,” Bullock said.

The victim says she has cuts, lacerations and bruises on her legs, head and other areas.

She agrees with Bullock, saying that APD has been a big help to her along the way, but that her attacker needs to stay in prison and that it’s triggering to see him walking free.

“It’s incumbent on the justice system to keep this guy off the streets. He immediately tried to kill me,” she said.
