Conor Benn is provisionally suspended by UKAD following an appeal

Unbeaten welterweight Conor Benn has been “provisionally suspended” by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping (UKAD) after successful appeals by UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC). The appeal overturned Benn’s clearance to return to competition after he failed two VADA anti-doping tests in 2022.

Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) tested positive for clomid twice while preparing to face Chris Eubank Jr. in an October 2022 pay-per-view contest at London’s O2 Arena. Revelations about Benn’s positive results for the banned substance came to light during the week, which ultimately led to the fight being canceled.

Months later, Benn received approval to return to action from the independent National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP). He resumed his career in the United States against Rodolfo Orozco in Orlando, Florida, winning a unanimous decision. This was followed by another UD win against Peter Dobson in Las Vegas last February.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn had his sights set on a lucrative stadium fight for Benn. Manny Pacquaio was the main target after a personal exchange in Saudi Arabia in March, ahead of Anthony Joshua’s second-round knockout win over Francis Ngannou.

However, following successful appeals from UKAD and BBBoC, Benn will now be subject to the disciplinary and investigative process under the UK anti-doping rules.

“UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) can today confirm that Mr Benn will again be subject to an interim ban under the UK Anti-Doping Rules from 7 May 2024,” UKAD said in a statement confirming the successful appeal will The decision last July to evict Benn.

“During his interim suspension, Mr Benn is prohibited from participating in any capacity (or assisting any other athlete in any capacity) in any competition, event or activity organized by the British Boxing Board of Control or any other world convened , approved or recognized is anti-doping compliant sport.

“UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) were successful in their respective appeals against a decision by an arbitral tribunal of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel in July 2023. Mr Benn’s provisional ban was reinstated by the Court of Appeal following successful appeals.

“Mr Benn’s case remains before the Independent National Anti-Doping Panel and the case will now be pursued in accordance with the UK Anti-Doping Rules. UKAD is not in a position to provide further public information at this time.”
