16-Year-Old Teen Killed Trying to Break Up Fight in SoHo: Police

SOHO, Manhattan (PIX11) — A 16-year-old boy was acting as a peacemaker while trying to break up an argument when he was shot in Manhattan on Tuesday, police said.

The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. in the Urban Plaza, a courtyard across from 233 Spring St. between Varick Street and Sixth Avenue in SoHo.

According to the NYPD, Mahki Brown, a 16-year-old from Brooklyn, was shot in the incident.

According to police, Brown intervened to defuse a fight between two groups stemming from an ongoing argument between two teenage girls. The students attend Broome Street Academy Charter High School, police said.

Police are searching for two suspects who may have fled the scene on Citi Bikes, police said. Investigators believe the suspects are members of a gang. There were no arrests.
