North Kingstown Police warn of phone scams

NORTH KINGSTOWN, Rhode Island (WPRI) — North Kingstown Police are alerting the community to a recent phone scam.

In a social media post, the department said a resident received a call from someone impersonating a police officer.

The caller told the victim that there was a warrant for her arrest and requested prepaid gift cards to cancel the warrant.

North Kingstown police said officers will never call and ask for prepaid gift cards or money to release a warrant.
