Police investigate fatal crash in central Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln police are investigating a fatal crash that killed an unborn child Friday.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of South 16th and E streets after a two-vehicle collision involving a 2017 Kia Optima and a 2021 Chevy Malibu was reported at 2:34 p.m

According to LPD, the Kia Optima was traveling south on 16th Street when it collided with the Chevy Malibu, which was traveling westbound on E Street through the intersection.

According to LPD, medical personnel provided aid to a pregnant passenger in the Kia Optima who was transported to a local hospital. Emergency procedures continued at the hospital, but the infant was pronounced dead shortly after an emergency birth.

The identities of those involved are not being disclosed at this time. LPD officers remain on scene and continue their investigation.
