One dead after fatal crash in Washington Township on Friday

A man is dead after a crash Friday afternoon in Washington Township, police said.

Porter County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident at a residence on County Road 325 East, south of County Road 500 North, at approximately 12:16 p.m., according to a release from Sgt. Ben McFalls, the department’s public information officer.

An initial investigation revealed that a 2019 Honda pickup was traveling north on County Road 325 East when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the east side of the roadway, struck construction materials and came to rest in an open field.

Officers found the male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle unconscious and unresponsive. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.

The driver’s identity was not released.
