Predicting the Buffalo Bills’ starting offense after the 2024 NFL Draft

It’s no secret the Bills will be different in 2024 on both sides of the ball. The only constant is Josh Allen and James Cook. When you compare what the Bills offense might look like in 2024 to what it was in 2023, you’ll see several new starters, but some previous starters will have much bigger roles next season, including Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid. None of these guys were considered starters at the start of the 2023 season, but that will change in 2024. Rooke’s camp and OTAs are also fast approaching, so we’ll start seeing these guys on the field very soon.

But what about other positions on the offensive side of the ball? We also have some staff turnover along the way and we might see some new faces starting there too. Who will be the two best boundary receivers in this offense? This answer might surprise you, but you’ll have to read on to find out my thoughts on this. Additionally, I will post my predictions on the starting offense later this week, as there are many changes there. But let’s move on to predicting my Bills’ starting offense.

Strategist:

Josh Allen – No surprises here.

To come back:

James Cook – Again, no shock in the Bills backfield. I wouldn’t be surprised if rookie Ray Davis moved up to number two behind Cook. I love Ty Johnson, but Davis will push him into the primary backup role.

Wide receivers:

Khalil Shakir This is where it gets interesting. I know Shakir did his job from the slot last season, but the team has big plans for Shakir, and I think it could be as an outside receiver on the boundary.
Keon Coleman -Coleman will have every opportunity to push the limits and earn the starting role opposite Shakir this offseason, and I think he will get the job done.
Curtis Samuel – Samuel is one of the main reasons why I think Shakir is going outside. I have more confidence in Shakir on the outside, and Samuel, with his speed and separation ability, would be dangerous out of the slot.

Tight end:

Dalton Kincaid – Last season started with Dawson Knox designated as the starter, but Kincaid more than proved he should be the starting tight end, and that’s exactly what I expect to see come weekend. ‘opening. That said, I also imagine Joe Brady will incorporate variations of two tight sets with Knox on the court with Kincaid.

Offensive line:

Dion Dawkins – LT – Dawkins had one of his best seasons last year and there is no reason to believe that won’t continue into the 2024 season. The Bills are stuck in this position for the foreseeable future predictable.
Connor McGovern – LG -I know the team said McGovern would move to center, replacing former center Mitch Morse, but I think a new rookie will take over that position, pushing McGovern back to left guard.
Sédric Van Plan-Granger – C – Van Pran-Granger appears to be a favorite among fans and draft analysts as one of the Bills’ top picks in this draft class. I agree and he will get the starting job by the end of the preseason.
O’Cyrus Torrence – RG -I expect Torrence to take a big step forward in his development in year two. He was solid last year, but the long season started to take a toll on him. I think he’ll get a Pro Bowl nomination in 2024.
Spencer Brown – RT – This time last year, most fans were calling for Spencer to be replaced after a lackluster performance in 2022. But in 2023, Brown showed fans what the coaching staff already knew: Brown can play at a high level in this league.

As I mentioned previously, when this team goes into two tight sets, expect Dawson Knox to be on the court, alongside Kincaid. And if they decide to use two-back formations, I expect fullback Reggie Gilliam to be the main guy with Cook; However, I can see Brady getting creative with Cook and Davis or Johnson alongside him. The look of the Bills offense in 2024 is intriguing for several reasons. First, we don’t know for sure how the position groups might break down, and second, I’m very interested to see Joe Brady’s imprint on this offense. Last season, he essentially ran a variation of Ken Dorsey’s offense. Now, with a full offseason, we’ll see Brady’s offense in 2024.
