Illegal dumping is being investigated in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Ohio EPA is investigating an incident where pallets of hand sanitizer and drums of other chemicals were dumped in a Dayton neighborhood.

The Ohio EPA’s Special Investigations Unit is involved in the investigation but said it cannot release specific details at this time.

In a statement to 2 NEWS, an Ohio EPA spokesperson said the following:

Open dumping is illegal and can be dangerous to both public health and the environment.

In addition to being unsightly, open landfills can attract disease-carrying rodents and insects and, depending on the type of waste dumped, contaminate groundwater and surface water and cause local air pollution.
