Teen guilty of murder in 2021 Omaha shooting that killed a 14-year-old girl

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An Omaha teenager was convicted of murder in court Friday.

The charges stem from the 2021 shooting of 14-year-old Isabella Santiago near 37th and P streets, just two days before Christmas.

In 2022, family members told 6 News that Santiago was driving with her stepbrother and his friend when a vehicle alongside them accelerated and a backseat passenger – Hernandez – fired 10 shots at the car containing Santiago.

The state tried Hernandez as an adult, even though he was only 16 at the time of the murder. The affidavit remains sealed and a sentencing date has not yet been announced.
