10-year-old hit and killed Monday afternoon – First state update

On Monday, May 6, 2024, at approximately 4:04 p.m., officers with the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Faulkland Road in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a maroon Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by a 17-year-old male, was heading west on Faulkland Road toward Centerville Road when the Hyundai Santa Fe crossed the double yellow line and drove into the oncoming lane, striking a 10-year-old male and a 12-year-old male who were on the sidewalk on the south side of Faulkland Road. After hitting the two pedestrians, the Hyundai Santa Fe continued until it hit the home on the southwest corner of Faulkland Road, officials said.

All people involved in this incident received immediate medical attention from the officers and emergency services who arrived at the scene.

The 17-year-old driver was taken to Christiana Hospital for his injuries, where he was treated and released.

The 12-year-old pedestrian was taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital for his injuries, where he was treated and released.

The 10-year-old pedestrian was taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital and later pronounced dead.
