The scary pre-draft incident involving Rashee Rice could come back to haunt the Chiefs WR

There is apparently three bad news for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice.

First, Rice was involved in a multi-car pileup while allegedly street racing his sports car on a Dallas highway. He was charged with eight felonies for this stunt, which resulted in someone being hospitalized.

Second, Rice was again under investigation by Dallas police for allegedly attacking a man he lured to a nightclub. No charges have been filed there, but the investigation is ongoing.

Now Rice’s checkered past is being dragged out of the shadows, and that won’t earn him any leniency from the NFL.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported through multiple sources that red flags were raised ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft because Rice was allegedly involved in the shooting at an SMU colleague’s car.

“According to multiple sources, several teams learned during the pre-draft process of an alleged incident involving Rice while he was at SMU. Rice believed that former SMU basketball player Kendric Davis was seeing Rice’s girlfriend. According to the specific information, Rice and some of his friends were there. According to the specific information collected from at least one team, Rice (or someone with him) went to an SMU basketball game and fired several bullets into Kendric Davis’ empty car.

According to Florio, authorities were not involved in the situation. It wasn’t reported. Despite this, the Chiefs and every other NFL team were aware of the incident but still decided to sign Rice.

There is no way to put this story in a positive light. Rice has a troubling collection of incidents on his record that paint a problematic picture. Ruthlessness on his part seems to be more of a trend than a rarity.

The alleged shooting would not face any direct consequences for Rice at this point, but it could still impact his future. Florio noted that the NFL has the right to increase discipline for players “who have committed misconduct in the past,” even if it occurred before they entered the NFL. Unless all 32 NFL teams were faced with a fake, this could be a real problem.

It looks like the NFL will wait until Rice’s legal situation is resolved before imposing a penalty, possibly a lengthy suspension. His actions before and after the Dallas crash could be a big factor in figuring this all out.
