Uber driver sexually assaulted passenger, then used her phone for 5-star review and tip: police

York police say investigators are searching for an Uber driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a female passenger and then used her phone to leave herself a tip and a five-star review.

According to police, the 53-year-old Brampton man picked up the victim in downtown Toronto early Sunday in a white 2021 Toyota Corolla.

En route to her final destination in Vaughan, the driver pulled into a parking lot in the area of Rutherford and Weston streets and sexually assaulted the 26-year-old woman, police alleged in a news release Wednesday.

He then took her phone, completed the ride using the ride-sharing app and gave himself a tip and a positive review, police said. He handed the phone back to the victim, who then got out of the car before the man drove away.

Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for the man and say he faces one count each of sexual assault and fraud under $5,000. They encourage the man to seek legal advice and turn himself in.

“Police believe there are additional victims who have not yet contacted police. You are encouraged to come forward and speak with investigators,” the release said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call York police at 1-866-876-5423, extension 7441, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
