Double murder in 2020 remains under investigation

Hickory police continue to investigate a double homicide that occurred on May 10, 2020. 20-year-old Xzavion Rashawn Watts and 16-year-old Damarion Isaiah Sharpe both suffered multiple gunshot wounds while sitting in the rear passenger area of ​​a silver 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, which was next to was parked near the gas pumps at the Save More Convenience Store on 1st Avenue SW in Hickory. Sharpe died at the scene and Watts was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The victims went to the store with two women after attending a barbecue at a family member’s home. The driver and a passenger got out of the vehicle and walked towards the store. A black man wearing black pants and a gray coat with the hood pulled up walked toward the Chevy from the back of the store. The man opened the passenger door and fired several shots from a handgun into the rear passenger area, hitting both Watts and Sharpe. The shooter fled south toward the back of the store.

Investigators believe someone in the community may have information that could lead to the shooter’s arrest. The family is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the person(s) responsible for the murders.
